Benavente is a municipality in the province of Zamora with 17,376 inhabitants, the 2nd largest of its 248 municipalities. Its council has 17 seats, and 9 make a majority to choose the mayor.
In May 2023 PP came first with 41% of the vote and 8 seats; PSOE was second with 7. 60% of the 13,715 voters on the roll cast a valid vote.
