Villanueva de la Cañada is a municipality in the province of Madrid with 22,845 inhabitants, the 34th largest of its 179 municipalities. Its council has 21 seats, and 11 make a majority to choose the mayor.

In May 2023 PP came first with 65.7% of the vote and 16 seats, an absolute majority; VOX was second with 3. 71% of the 15,481 voters on the roll cast a valid vote.
