Sahagún is a municipality in the province of León with 2,434 inhabitants, the 24th largest of its 211 municipalities. Its council has 11 seats, and 6 make a majority to choose the mayor.

In May 2023 PP came first with 46.3% of the vote and 6 seats, an absolute majority; PSOE was second with 3. 66.3% of the 2,016 voters on the roll cast a valid vote.
