Laval is a commune in Mayenne with 31,935 registered voters, the largest of the département's 239 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 56.8% of them voted, close to the 56% across Mayenne, and Laval à venir won 34 of the council's 43 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted Ensemble (Macron camp) 35.8%, France Unbowed 23%, National Rally 14%. National Rally did 9 points worse here than across France.
