Saint-Chamond is a commune in Loire with 23,975 registered voters, the 2nd largest of the département's 316 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 46.2% of them voted, fewer than the 52.4% across Loire, and the list led by Axel Dugua won 28 of the council's 39 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 26.1%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 24.8%, National Rally 24.2%. France Unbowed did 4 points better here than across France.
