Gières is a commune in Isère with 4,727 registered voters, the 37th largest of the département's 510 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 57.4% of them voted, close to the 55.5% across Isère, and the list led by Mickael Guiheneuf won 22 of the council's 29 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted Ensemble (Macron camp) 30%, France Unbowed 23.6%, National Rally 18%. National Rally did 5 points worse here than across France.
