Bessèges is a commune in Gard with 1,977 registered voters, the 67th largest of the département's 349 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 62.5% of them voted, more than the 59.4% across Gard, and the list led by Christine Roux won 18 of the council's 23 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted National Rally 34.9%, France Unbowed 23.5%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 17.7%. National Rally did 12 points better here than across France.
