About Besançon

Besançon is a commune in Doubs with 68,616 registered voters, the largest of the département's 558 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 57.1% of them voted, close to the 56.3% across Doubs, and the list led by Ludovic Fagaut won 42 of the council's 55 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 32.3%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 27.7%, National Rally 13.7%. France Unbowed did 10 points better here than across France.
