Marans is a commune in Charente-Maritime with 3,595 registered voters, the 27th largest of the département's 462 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 60.3% of them voted, close to the 58.7% across Charente-Maritime, and the list led by Laurent Galliot won 22 of the council's 27 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted National Rally 28.6%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 28.2%, France Unbowed 16.9%. National Rally did 5 points better here than across France.
