Lahontan is a commune in Pyrénées-Atlantiques with 440 registered voters, the 195th largest of the département's 545 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 86.4% of them voted, more than the 62.5% across Pyrénées-Atlantiques, and "EN ABAN ! ENSEMBLE POUR LAHONTAN" won 12 of the council's 15 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted National Rally 25.3%, Others 23.4%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 18.9%. Others did 20 points better here than across France.
