Herbignac is a commune in Loire-Atlantique with 5,704 registered voters, the 41st largest of the département's 207 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 63.5% of them voted, more than the 58.3% across Loire-Atlantique, and the list led by Franck Duval won 23 of the council's 29 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted Ensemble (Macron camp) 29.4%, National Rally 24.6%, France Unbowed 19.6%.
