Taponas is a commune in Rhône with 723 registered voters, the 183rd largest of the département's 266 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 47% of them voted, fewer than the 56.7% across Rhône, and Bien Vivre Ensemble à Taponas won 15 of the council's 15 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted National Rally 33.7%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 23.8%, France Unbowed 15.9%. National Rally did 10 points better here than across France.
