Le Portel is a commune in Pas-de-Calais with 7,233 registered voters, the 24th largest of the département's 886 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 48.8% of them voted, fewer than the 60.3% across Pas-de-Calais, and CAP SUR L'AVENIR won 29 of the council's 29 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted National Rally 42.4%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 22%, France Unbowed 16.9%. National Rally did 19 points better here than across France.
