Mortagne-au-Perche is a commune in Orne with 2,490 registered voters, the 14th largest of the département's 381 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 57.6% of them voted, close to the 58.1% across Orne, and the list led by Virginie Valtier won 20 of the council's 27 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted Ensemble (Macron camp) 33.3%, National Rally 22.1%, France Unbowed 16.2%. France Unbowed did 6 points worse here than across France.
