Mechmont is a commune in Lot with 119 registered voters, the 272nd largest of the département's 312 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 73.1% of them voted, more than the 65.9% across Lot, and Bien Vivre à Mechmont won 11 of the council's 11 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 36.9%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 28.2%, Republicans 7.8%. National Rally did 20 points worse here than across France.
