Villefontaine is a commune in Isère with 11,835 registered voters, the 10th largest of the département's 510 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 34.4% of them voted, fewer than the 55.5% across Isère, and Bien Vivre à Villefontaine won 27 of the council's 33 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 36.2%, National Rally 22.6%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 19.8%. France Unbowed did 14 points better here than across France.
