Saint-Martin-d'Hères is a commune in Isère with 18,938 registered voters, the 4th largest of the département's 510 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 45.5% of them voted, fewer than the 55.5% across Isère, and SMH EN AVANT ! won 30 of the council's 39 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 37.3%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 21.7%, National Rally 17.9%. France Unbowed did 15 points better here than across France.
