Apatou is a commune in Guyane with 2,806 registered voters, the 8th largest of the département's 22 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 75.5% of them voted, more than the 48.6% across Guyane, and ALLIANCE CITOYENNE POUR LE RENOUVEAU D'APATOU won 28 of the council's 33 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 74.5%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 17.6%, National Rally 4.9%. France Unbowed did 53 points better here than across France.
