Aurel is a commune in Drôme with 227 registered voters, the 211th largest of the département's 362 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 74.9% of them voted, more than the 57.8% across Drôme, and Pour Aurel won 11 of the council's 11 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 32.5%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 27.2%, National Rally 13.6%. France Unbowed did 11 points better here than across France.
