Givet is a commune in Ardennes with 4,129 registered voters, the 6th largest of the département's 446 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 60.2% of them voted, more than the 57.3% across Ardennes, and the list led by Dominique Hamaide won 23 of the council's 29 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 31.1%, National Rally 27.5%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 21.6%. France Unbowed did 9 points better here than across France.
