Privas is a commune in Ardèche with 5,749 registered voters, the 7th largest of the département's 334 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 55.1% of them voted, fewer than the 62.2% across Ardèche, and the list led by Michel Valla won 21 of the council's 29 seats after a second round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted France Unbowed 26%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 24.4%, National Rally 19%. National Rally did 4 points worse here than across France.
