Le Fossat is a commune in Ariège with 765 registered voters, the 28th largest of the département's 325 communes. At the municipal election of March 2026 56.3% of them voted, fewer than the 64% across Ariège, and ENSEMBLE POUR LE FOSSAT won 15 of the council's 15 seats in the first round.

In the first round of the 2022 presidential election the commune voted National Rally 27.9%, France Unbowed 20.4%, Ensemble (Macron camp) 19.1%. Ensemble (Macron camp) did 9 points worse here than across France.
